Remote learning at East Ward Primary School

DUE TO THE GDPR REGULATIONS, ALL DEVICES WISHING TO ACCESS THE HOME LEARNING PLATFORM WILL NEED TO HAVE A DEVICE PASSCODE ENABLED. PLEASE MAKE SURE THIS IS A SIMPLE PASSCODE SO THAT YOUR CHILDREN ARE STILL ABLE TO USE THE DEVICE FOR THEIR HOME LEARNING.

Please find here on this page a guide to our Remote Learning which will be available for you to access and engage with during our closure period.

During this period each child will be provided with a Microsoft account from school. These details have been sent out by letter and envelope and the Parent Guide posted below should tell you everything you need to stay connected to East Ward School life.

We will be hosting daily sessions using Microsoft Teams as a central hub for your children to meet in a 'digital classroom'. Teachers will invite students into a class 'team' for an immersive learning session. Class teachers will host 'live' teaching lessons each day, set Assignments and will  post links and direct students to schemes of work and tasks that will be accessed through a wealth of resources including LbQ and Purple Mash.

Your child has been provided with a Microsoft education account from school. This account will allows them to use all of the Microsoft programs online at home (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Onenote, Publisher and Teams). You will need to activate this account before enjoying all of the benefits, along with accessing their 'online classroom' in Teams. A guide for how to do this has been provided at the top of this page.

These Microsoft applications will allow your child to continue their creative learning from home and will ensure that whatever work is set by their teacher, they can complete it.

MICROSOFT TEAMS

This will be the first place your child goes to each day to access their online classroom. The teacher will then start the session by directing the students to one of the platforms for the days work. This online classroom will be a safe and monitored space for the children to communicate with each other in the presence of their class teacher. If they have any questions during the session, or about the work they are doing, then they can return to this classroom in Teams and ask anything they need. This classroom should be kept open in a tab on your device when working so that updates from the teacher or extra work can be seen and then navigated to.

The staff at East Ward have been using this for their own planning and communication and it is a great tool. The guide of how to access and use can be found at the top of this page and will talk you through getting logged in and getting started.

PURPLE MASH

The Purple Mash program has a host of activities that can be set by the teacher linked a range of different areas for learning. Each task that the teacher needs the children to complete will be allocated to them as a '2 Do'. These will appear at the top of the homepage and the children know how to navigate to these. The teacher will receive a notification when the task has been accessed and completed. The teacher is then able to feedback and communicate with the student about their work. This will be one of the most used platforms over this closure period and the children across the school have used it extensively and so should be confident using it.

This is also a great educational tool for non-structured work allowing the children to code and design games, work on drawing and art projects and even create their own music. We would urge you to get your children using the huge range of apps in Purple Mash during this closure period.

MATHLETICS

https://login.mathletics.com/

Mathletics has long been used at East Ward, however it has recently had a face lift! The new user interface is more child friendly and allows the user more control over their learning experience. Our teachers at East Ward are able to see each child's answers and workings during their undertaking of the challenge allocated to them. The teacher will get updates on progress and can also issue on the spot rewards to their class members. The use of Mathletics will be great for the children to take part in a virtual lesson using this and Teams to communicate and learn during this closure period.

All students have a valid account and the details have been sent out to you.

TIMES TABLE ROCKSTARS

This a great tool to keep your children's times tables up to scratch over the coming weeks! The children are very aware of how to access this platform and again work can be set by the teachers to ensure the appropriate level of learning is accessed.

The kids love this one so be prepared to be tested by them with the speed of your skills!

LBQ

<<< click to follow link

LBQ or Learning by questions is currently being used at East Ward by years 3,4 and 5. This means it is only accessible to those years and not the whole school. If the classroom teachers wish to use this over the closure period in their allocated maths session then the children will be directed by them using Teams and they will know what to do. I have added a link on the picture next to this to help you access the online version, though you may wish to download the app for ease.
