RETURN TO SCHOOL DETAILS SEPTEMBER 2020
As all children return to school in September having significantly more pupils on site will raise greater logistical and organisational challenges for our school. While teaching in class groups is a normal model, pressures at the start and end of the day, break and lunch times and on common spaces can be particular challenges.
The Trust has thought very carefully about the organisation of the day, including how best to keep Key Stages separate at break and lunch times and at the start and end of the day.
Drop off and collection of children at the beginning and end of the day
At the start of the school day, children will need to be dropped off by one only adult at the school gates. This is so we can reduce numbers of people waiting at the gates.
At the end of the school day, we are allowing children to be picked up at any point between 3pm and 3.20pm from the fire doors nearest to their classroom. We would ask that parents do not loiter on the playground so that we can limit the numbers of adults on there at any time. We will also have a one-way system in place on the ramps into the playground.
Children can be dropped off and collected at the following times
Start of the day
End of the day
The school gates will be open between 3:00pm- 3:20pm. All children must be collected promptly and leave the premises without delay.
Families with siblings in different year groups
KS1 and EYFS
These times will apply to Reception children from Monday 7th September following their transition days. Timings for Nursery children have been communicated separately.
The resources for the class will be stored in the class and only used across each key-stage bubble.
Where staff need to work with individual children or small groups of children from more than one bubble, care will be taken to maintain distancing.
The school has made plans for specialist staff providing 1:1 support (e.g. as part of an EHCP where the support is delivered away from the classroom) as follows:
- Staff will wash hands before and after working with a pupil
- All equipment needed for the child is set up in the space before the start of the session
- After the child has returned to class, the member of staff cleans the desk area and washes any equipment that needs to be used by another pupil
Planning, Preparation and Assessment time
The school is planning for PPA time to be scheduled as normal, following the timetable sent by Danielle. This will give careful consideration to the latest government guidelines and will follow the Trust and school Risk Assessment.
All assemblies will be class-based and led by members of school and trust staff. These will be delivered using sway (when it is not being delivered by the class staff).
We will continue to communicate with parents via email, Teams and the Arbor App. Information and updates will also be available via the school website and the school’s Twitter account.
All KS1 children must use the KS1 toilets (nearest the KS1 corridor). All KS2 children must use the KS2 toilets (nearest to the year six classrooms).
Children will have playtimes staying in their key stage group and it will be staggered to follow the latest government guidelines.
Lunchtimes will be staggered following the timetable which will be sent by Miss Jarvis.
When staff are eating their own lunch please be mindful of social distancing. There are several spaces around the school which can be used for staff to eat their lunch and these will be highlighted in another document. Consideration needs to be given to the numbers of staff using these spaces at any one time to ensure suitable distancing.
Breakfast and After School Clubs
Before and After School provision will resume in September. The club will contact parents who access the service to confirm arrangements.
Homework will be set via Teams. Topic and Basic Skills work for all children will be uploaded to Teams for the children to access in the same they have been doing during Lockdown.
Each class will have their own assigned set of reading books which can be sent home. When the child brings the book back to school it will left for 24 hours before another child can take it home. Children will also be able to access Epic Books and we will ensure that there are the usual reading opportunities in school.
Parents evening will be held on Teams. Each parent will be allocated a 5-minute slot by school. Children will also receive a short report summarising their first few weeks in school and how well they have settled.
There will be no trips until the Spring term at the earliest. We will update you when we can begin to book possible future visits.
Children will be expected to return to school in September wearing full school uniform including black school shoes. No trainers will be considered as school uniform.
